Sound Project: The objective of this project was to create a one to two minute scene using a series of sounds, some of which would be created using foley. Only seven words could be used in the project, maximum.

When I was first assigned this project, I wouldn't to think of a soundscape that wouldn't be immediately obvious for someone to do. Given that it was the beginning of October, I thought of kids going out trick or treating on Halloween. The more I thought about it, I realized that there were many sounds that could be used for this soundscape, from the sounds of the kids to the sounds of the Halloween decorations to the sound of rustling through a bag of candy. My group partner and I decided that this was going to be what we would do for our project.

After coming up with some sounds that we wanted to add, we realized that we needed some kind of sound that represented a progression. This would make it so that it wasn't just a series of sounds and there would be a sense of action. We came up with the idea of there being a dog in the house of the family handing out candy. The dog would run outside and then be called back in. It was a simple thing that I thing really improved the project. For the sound of the dog, my group partner used the sound of her own dog. She also recorded the sound of rustling through the candy while I recorded Halloween music playing on my computer. I recorded myself getting closer and further away from the computer to make the music sound either close or distant. We combined these foley sounds with sounds from stock databases to complete the project.
